CFX Build - Aerofoils

Greetings All,
Could anyone suggest an easy way to input an aerofoil section into CFX Build 5 ? Have tried simply entering points and fitting a curve and inputting a *.iges file from SolidWorks. The first method gives problems when it comes to defining the fluid domains, and the second method inputs a solid, so there are two aerofoils rather than one. Any help would be appreciated. Greg. |

Hai Greg, It's pretty easy, you can get the data points along surface of any airfoil section, there are many programs for free on the web. First, generate the data file and then convert it to a neutral file format (you need to write a program) *.out format. This neutral format can be imported in Build-5 and then a curve generated using create/curve/spline option. that's it. You'll have to open a neutral file and study the structure to write a translator. All the best, Elbert.

I usually take the airfoil coordinates in their original form:
x/c y/c 0.0 0.0 0.1 0.05 0.2 0.1 ... etc... put them in the CFX-Build point format (i.e., put square brackets around each point and add a zero for the Z direction): [ 0.0 0.0 0.0 ] [ 0.1 0.05 0.0 ] [ 0.2 0.1 0.0 ] ... then select Create->Point->XYZ and just copy and paste my entire list of points right into the little text box on the panel. No fooling with IGES or Neutral files needed. Neale |
