Dear all,

I would like to map 3D shear stress contour I make in CFD-Post into a 2D plot as per figure below (right panel). The X axis is arterial length and Y axis is circumference angle.

If want to do the mapping in another platform like Matlab, I need "arterial length", "radius" and "circumference angle" and "WSS" however by exporting in CFD-Post I only get "X", "Y", "Z" and "WSS".

Please let me know if you have a solution.

Regards
AshtonJ

I would not do this in CFD-Post. For more sophistocated post processing like this I would use more advanced post processing software like Ensight, Fieldview or Tecplot; or take it into a mathematical application like matlab or python.

If your question is how to generate the length and angle parameters from the XYZ points - this can be done in CFD-Post or an external software, but you will need to define the function which does the mapping. If your central axis is straight this is not too complex, but if you want it to follow a curved path it will get tricky.

Thanks Glenn, exactly the question is how to generate length and angle parameters from the XYZ points with a curved path, if I can do this the rest is pretty straightforward. I've seen this kind of mapping in several published articles but no information on how it's done. I believe this kind of mapping is really essential for post-processing in particular for biomedical applications like my case. For example in my case I want to identify the areas with local WSS<0.5 which are susceptible of plaque development, so having a mapped pot would help a lot in identifying these regions. Thanks again

This is not a CFD question, it is a mathematics question. You will need to find a function which works for your geometry - there is no general answer to this.

Thanks dear Glenn. I am not sure how you distinguish CFD from mathematics!! but please not that this is a pure CFD problem: Curvilinear coordinate transformation.
I simplify my question:

Is CFD-Post capable of generating data in Curvilinear coordinate system rather than Cartesian?

So answer to this question works for all Curvilinear geometries, it is not specific to my geometry.

CFD-Post does not appear to support coordinate systems other than cartesian.

Some coordinate systems are straight forward to implement using user variables. For instance a cylindrical coordinate system would be simple. But complex coordinate systems, for instance where an axis is not straight but follows some path, would involve more complex maths and you might get beyond what is practical to do in CFD-Post.
