Hi All,
Please bare with me on this one. I studied a crash course on CFD: ANSYS CFX at university this semester. Got very high marks and have a good understanding of the software (i think). However it was merely the very basics of turbulent flow. Also, single bodies (bodies extruded from fluid domain, etc.). Through a self search I was able to be a part of a small project with a company. They asked me if i could do the thermal comfort analysis on an atrium. I accepted the offer after knowing that I most likely will struggle in this quest. Can ANYONE, point me to some information that may help me? They want to see the heat increments in the atrium. Any leads. The design conditions should be as follows: Heating day – External ambient 3.5(degree Celsius) Cooling day – External ambient 38(degree Celsius) The glazing for the atrium is a double glazed system of U Value 2.5 and SHGC 0.5. They are expecting your model to show what sort of temperatures are expected in the atrium. There are also inlet/outlet of dedicated HVAC units. Please let me know if you/I need more information to narrow down a solution, I will try my best. |

I think there are some stuff for thermal comfort calculations either on the ANSYS customer webpage and/or in the ANSYS installation. Have a look and see what you find.
There are lots of studies in the literature for air conditioning simulations like this. They would be very useful to find as they will give you recommendations on what turbulence modelling to use, meshes, time steps etc etc. |
