Hi,

I know this is very simulation dependent but it will be useful to have comments from the experienced CFX community.

My model is of an internal flow (ducts and filters) which I have simulated as steady state with a range of mass flow rates to plot the system pressure loss against the fan performance curve; the fan is downstream of my system and not included in the model. However, for all the simulations the residuals and monitor points (velocity and pressure at many points in the system) show the flow is unsteady. But I do not have enough time to simulate any transient cases; the timestep and endtime would be choices to make as well.

As this is a common situation with industrial CFD (complex flowfields but little time to solve them suitably) then how do others assess steady state solution results for unsteady flows? For example; I need to report the pressure drop across the system but the outlet pressure is unsteady, the inlet is just atmosphere. Strictly, the monitor point plot is not giving a fluctuating pressure to take a max/min/mean from.

Thanks.
