Hi everyone,

I haven't worked with mechanical a lot and now I'm stuck with a problem, to which the answer is probably pretty simple:

I try to apply a torsion to a half ellipsoid. The top (where the ellipsoid is cut in half) should rotate in one direction and the bottom (its tip) in the other.
Problems:
1. Do I chose "fixed rotation" as an anchor?
2. Use "rotational velocity" or "momentum" or something else as the load? I want to apply a certain rotation, measured in degree or rad. (it's not constant, so I would want to use a function or a table for that).
3. Interpreting the solution: So far I tried it with fixed support on one side (at the point where the ellipsoid is cut in half) and either rotational velocity or momentum
a) The mesh doesn't seem to deform (looks the same as before when I turn on the wireframe while looking at the solution). Does that mean there was no torsion? I can see a deformation in the longitudinal diraction.
b) I can't find out how to extract the rotation at a certain point.

Many questions, but I guess they're only hard for an Ansys noob like me, because I couldn't find a discussion about it elsewhere in the forum.

I would appreciate any help, thanks guys!!!

Kirsten

The reason you found nothing regarding what you want is because this is ANSYS CFX forum, a CFD tool. You are looking for information on ANSYS Mechanical, a structural analysis tool. They're quite different.

Try XANSYS.org or ANSYS Customer Support.

Cheers
