Translational Periodic BC Errors

Hi
I am attempting to model flow in a heat exchanger and am starting by not yet looking at the heat equation (only momentum). Inlet and outlet BCs are normal to the flow while a translational periodic BC is running parallel on the top and bottom (for the sake of simplicity, pretend that this is a 2D problem). There is an obstruction that forces some of the flow to exit the top and I would expect that flow to re-emerge at the bottom (as specified by the periodic BC). When I attempt to run this situation, I get 2 error messages as follows: "The ANSYS CFX partitioner exited with the return code 1." "Update failed for the solution component in CFX. The solver failed with a non-zero exit code of : 2" Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Dylan |

Please show an image of what you are modelling.
Does your simulation run if you do a serial (single processor) simulation? |

Here are some images. This is supposed to be a heat exchanger. The fin is the wavy section in the middle of the fluid.
I have tried to model using translational periodic boundary conditions on a very simple flow problem but I run into the same error, so I don't think that it is related to the complexity of the geometry. Thanks Dylan coils.jpg close up coils.jpg close up coils 2.jpg |

The first error is the important one - the second error is just a flow on from the first.
For some reason the partitioner is not partitioning your mesh. Here are some ideas for you to try: * Do you have enough memory? * Is the mesh well formed? * Try a different partitioning algorithm (eg recursive bisection) * Does it run serial (ie no parallel of any form)? * Can you run a tutorial example multi-processor? * Does it partition of a different PC? |
