Hello All!

I come to humbly ask for some assistance in this issue I have come across.

Simply put I have a ball passing through a gradual 90 degree elbow pipe, and I am using Ansys CFX. The expectation is for the ball to bump against the wall of the pipe on its way through but to remain inside the fluid domain.

The ball itself is a domain on its own set as an immersed solid linked to a rigid body solver. Standard inlet and opening conditions on the two ends of the pipe, default wall conditions elsewhere. With this I end up having the ball start moving along the pipe as expected until it reaches the bend where it passes through the wall and off into space.

I have tried fiddling with different settings put to no avail. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or have you got a method for doing this problem yourself?

Best Wishes,
Minty

CFX doesnt have wall to wall interference built in.

You could either do this as a FSI model with ANSYS mechanical's contact model or if your boundary is simple you might be able to define some CEL expressions to prescribe the wall locations and influence the rigid body velocity.

Thanks Ghorrocks, I'll give that a go.
