Hello,
Can everybody explain me where that the radial velocity come from in straight pipe flow with a swirling wall in the core of the pipe ? I suppose that it is in relation to boundaries layers ?! Although the radial velocity is negligible compared with the others components, I noted that the radial velocity reach a max peak near the rotating wall and an other near the static wall and I just wondered why ? Thank you |

Yes, this sounds like a secondary flow. Look up "secondary flow" on google and you should get some good examples of flows you would not expect.
