Hello
I want to generate a residence time distribution curve in comsol. I did stationary study for fluid flow and transient study for particle tracing.
Anyway, when I try to generate a curve for residence time distribution, it doesn't work.
Somebody could help me??
obviously, I could pay you for your time

Hi,
Try run the transient study for fluid flow, then plot the residence time distribution.
Based on my experience, it will not work with stationary fluid flow because particle tracing needs transient velocities fields.
Good luck!

Hi,

You are doing what so-called pseudo transient LPT (Lagrangian particle tracking). To generate the RTD (residence time distribution), all you need to do is just counting the particle number and exit time at the outlet. Then you can plot the incremental or cumulative function of the residence time. It is pretty straightforward. Just search the forums.

Thanks,
Rdf
