I am solving Navier-Stokes equation using the finite element library Rheolof.
To model the advection, they have used method of characteristics.

As I use larger values of Re, I need a larger dt in the code so that du/dt actually shrinks and I eventually get the steady solution. This is counter-intuitive because I always imagined, the more complicated the problem, the shorter dt has to be.

Can anyone shed some light on the method, and the role of that dt. and if there is any condition that needs to be satisfied for convergence (something similar to CFL condition)?
