This blog post is for those users who want to build ParaView 3.8.0 that comes with OpenFOAM's ThirdParty, version 1.7.0/1/x.

Maintaining a local git repository on a portable disk image file or partition

Here's the scenario: You need the latest OpenFOAM 1.7.x git version, but your Linux machine is stranded on a deserted lab without access to the internet or to any other machine that does have access to the internet. The only machine with internet access that you have access to, is on some other place in the world and on top of that, uses Windows for an operating system. But that certain Windows machine is yours and/or you have administrative powers over it!

What can you do? Install...

If you don't know what I mean by build-gcc, read this first: Automated scripts for building gcc 4.4.x and 4.5.x for using with OpenFOAM 1.7 series


Sometime ago, a problem was detected when using one of my build-gcc scripts (see OpenFoam 1.7.0 on RHEL 4.6 post #3) about no valid libc.so being found during the build procedure. This was later fixed by adding the proper lib folder path to LD_LIBRARY_PATH (read post #9 on that thread).
