After an almost endless stream of success stories (at least according to CFD vendors), CFD recently came in for some implied (if not direct) criticism in two widely reported articles. Peering behind the headlines reveals important lessons in benchmarking and the use of CFD.
The articles in question were:
Centreline Downwash Generating Wing
The articles in question were:
- Don't Be Fooled By Pretty Pictures, Forbes, "..current rage of using computational fluid dynamics modeling software in data centers is creating a false sense of security in anticipating computer equipment heat loads."
- Analysis - top teams pass notes to improve overtaking, Formula1.com, "...quickly learned that previous FIA proposals aimed at increasing overtaking, in particular the planned Centreline Downwash Generating (CDG) rear wing [designed primarily with CFD], had some major flaws. Utilising a conventional wind tunnel rather than computer-based Computational Fluid Dynamics, they instead came up with a series of new measures which should guarantee the desired effect."
