Ansys CFD + rendering farm

Hello everyone, i have been put on researching a way to spead up the calculation or rendering times of the CFD program they use in the lab here. My question is whats the best way to set up a post processing system to speed up the processing speed of the program. is the post processor able to work on a linux cluster or linux based rendering farm? The reason i ask is because we have a render box here equiped with 2 tesla GPU boards and it is used to render models and scenes designed in 3dsmx and other 3d programs. Now we need to speed up the ansys CFD's any input is appreciated since i am not responsible for the CFD's i dont know much about the program so any insight would be helpfull.
thank you and i look forward in your responses. ps: even is the post processor is windows based i could dual boot the render box and run it in windows but i am not sure if windows would be able to recognize the tesla GPU boards and how fast it would be. any input is appreciated. |

Unfortunately whether you can use the GPU for your calculation depends on whether the program has been developed to use the graphics chip. As far as I'm aware this has not been implemented in Fluent yet (or CFX ?) so although windows will recognise your tesla boards Fluent will not.

To add to your comment, one of my former colleague who has worked extensively on CUDA said that converting existing programs to utilize graphics hardware is non trivial and it's almost like rewriting your code all together, so I think it will be a while before we see major CFD software offering that feature. |

create scripts, esp those that can run without displaying "in batch mode". that will save all kinds of CPU and GPU power. be sure that the computer has plenty of GB of memory and good CPU speed. number of CPU's usually doesn't help, most CFFD postprocessors cannot utilize mutliple cores. some of the better ones do, like ENSIGHT, i believe.
