Hi all

I previosly worked with Comsol program but I didn't solve my problem..

I need to simulate compression test in a finite sample of 3d periodic structure.

problem is that one unit cell has 5000 mesh elements and I need approximatly 1000*1000*1000 unit cells (this for nanotechnology purpuses) It causes to crash due to out of memory error..

Another way I went was using periodic boundary conditions and I succeded in unlimited case(infinite layer) but nevertheless in life I have finite sample(~1000*1000*1000) with free constrains on the edges. Therefore I have big losses in poissons expand of whole sample.

The question is can Ansys solve my problem or not?

thx in advance,
Alex

Hi Alex Zinchenko,

I'm sure that ANSYS can resolve your problem. To do this you need to know much detail about material type, load condition, and of course to you must know what type of material you use. Beside of all of this, you must know to work in ANSYS. I recomanded ANSYS Classic or begin from ANSYS 12 is called ANSYS Mechanical APDL. I recomanded this, because in this manner you will have much more control on input data, solver and output data.

Best regards

thx for reply,

You meant that ansys can cope with 1000*1000*1000*5000=5*10^12 mesh elements
or that I can apply periodic boundary conditions in limited sample?

thx in advance,
Alex

Hi Alex Zinchenko,

From my point of view, most natural phenomena can be study with ANSYS, in much real manner, function of level of detail you have.

In my first email, I specified some generality's about what are must know to have a very appropriate results comparison with phisical test.

So, if you want with certitude an answer, please attached here some pictures with your problem. In this manner, all users who read your post, and can help you, with solution or opinion, ideea, etc, will posted here.

Best regards.
