As far as I know Ansys has never been supported on Ubuntu...

Ansys 12 is not supported on Linux at all until the service pack comes out and then only on RedHat and SusE and not Ubuntu...

Dear All,
I have installed Ansys 12 including CFX and ICEM on Ubuntu 9.10 and it's working fine.
One suggestion for your problem: First upgrade the Ubuntu and then install ANSYS.
Regards
Kishor

Hi Kishor,

Thank you very much for your indication. It is very useful for me this information, because in this moment I installed on my laptop the last version of Xubuntu (Xubuntu 9.10) which is constructed on the same platform like Ubuntu (latest version - 9.10). I insist to Ubuntu, because is much user friendly like other version of Linux, and most importing things I want to implemented the Linux at my work, but to made this is necessary to compare the manner in which work ANSYS on windows and linux.

I have a question here: you have installed ANSYS12 to 32 biti or 64?

Thank you in advance for answer and support.

Best regards.

Hi Kishor,

Thank you for information.

Anybody try or have installed ANSYS 11 on Xubuntu (last version) ?

Best regards.

P.S. Function well all modules of ANSYS ? (Workbench,CFX,Classic, etc.)
Exist ANSYS12 for 32biti on internet, torrents, etc, available for download ?(I put this question because I want to install ANSYS for me, at my home for tested, not for used for customer or make money with him.)

I have sucessfully ran Ansys 11.0 and 12.x on Ubuntu. Please note than Ansys 12 does NOT have Workbench support for Linux versions. It is due sometimes next year (check their site).

Instead, run applications directly.

Hi TurbulentFluid,

What means: "Instead, run applications directly". What means that, and how I can apply this. I'm sorry, but I don't understand your advice.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards.

Hello and no problem!

What I meant was that you need to run each application by using it's individual launcher.

Here's how: my Ansys files are installed on the mounted partition called LINUXINSTALLS, so if I wanted to run, say CFX-pre I'd go to
/media/LINUXINSTALLS/Ansys_12_lin/v121/CFX/bin/ via nautilus (using ubuntu here) and double-click cfx5pre file. Alternatively, I could use the terminal and go to the same path, then type ./cfx5pre

The better way to run cfx is to run cfx5launch which will open a GUI launcher where you can specify your work folder (where all the .res files will go to) and run CFX-Pre, Solve and Post from the GUI.

If you romp around the /v121/ folder you'll find the launchers for the rest of the programs (ICEM, Fluent etc). Good luck!

Hullo!

After installing Ansys on Linux, you need to run the flexlm installation once again; type ./INSTALLM or is it INSTALL.LM, not sure - check your installation directory on the Ansys DVD. Run the procedure again, and be sure you specified the correct computer name and license file.

The server should then be up and running, if not, open the launcher and play around with the licensing options...

PS.
mechanicaldesign, I am sorry, I don't quite understand your question?

dear Friend !

I tried once to install ansys 12 linux 64 over centos 5.4 64 but it required libraries files to be updated. so better to do update your library files first then install ansys linx 64. i have checked it already.

but if you do with redhat 5.4 it wil not ask any library file. u can do on it without support if trial version....

dear if you have ansys 12.1 linux 64 version or any link plz send me !

waiting your response beside if you want to ask any issue u may ask. I have already tested all versions

cheers
