Can anyone explain when and why should we apply free-slip boundary conditions?

I was trying to simulate air bubble rise inside glycerine (2D) and I got accurate results (compared to a research paper) when I applied the free-slip boundary condition to the right vertical wall (left wall symmetry, bottom wall no slip and top outlet). The author did calculation for entire domain with no-slip conditions.

Thank You.
