Hello guys,

I am currently working on a project in which i need to model a Savonius turbine in water and analyse the influence of the turbine on the water flow. First i'd like to model only one turbine and then i would model 2 or 3 turbines in order to determine what is the best configuration of position.
For now i just did a simple 2D simulation with 1 turbine where the turbine does not move with fluid influence.
The next step would be to make the turbine move under flow influence. However i don't really if it is possible with fluent..
I heard about dynamic mesh but don't know how it really works.
I'd be grateful if someone could help me or give me advices 🙂

Thanks for reading me !

Usually you would divide your domain into a moving and a stationary part. The turbine would be in a rotating frame which allows you leave the mesh as is instead of moving for example the blade walls.
Between the two parts you will need some kind of interface to account for the frame change. You will find many tutorials for this online.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.
I watched some videos about the subject, i understood that the rotating speed of the turbine would be set as a parameter, however i'd like it to be moving thanks to the force of the fluid.
Am i wrong and did not understand correctly ?

I am not sure if this is possible. I could imagine it working with FSI (fluid-structure interaction) in some way, but I don't know how to set it up. Maybe someone else can help.

However you will find stuff about FSI and its capabilities online.
