Hi, I have downloaded ANSYS student and I am completely new to ANSYS and CFD. I have studied fluid mechanics during my first year at university and I am about to enter the second year. should I start learning ANSYS student by first creating overset meshes on 2D geometries? is this difficult?

Gert-Jan will become famous soon enough
There are many tutorials available. Why not try these first? Why overset meshing?

I have more 20 years of experience and never used Overset meshing. So, I consider it only usefull if you need it for a special application. But then still, it is not straight forward so I would start with general CFD applications first to get used to the software.

Babies can't run. They first have to learn how to turn, sit, stand, walk before they can run.

Hi, I guess the best way to learn is a step by step tutorials. Start with the basics. I began with Abaqus myself and only then started learning the basics of ANSYS. And there are indeed many aspects, depending on what exactly you want to learn.
I looked for some materials on EngineerPedia and ANSYS tutorials on YouTube and websites, of course.

After you learn the essential directions and standards, start practicing specific tasks professionally. In this way you will settle your objective and the advancement will be obvious. Be pragmatist and begin with nuts and bolts information.
