Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum and i hope to be here a long time to come. I recently started learning about modelling with Ansys. Currently, i'm faced with a challenge of modelling an insulated tank containing diesel fuel at 48 degC left in the ambient of -40 degC. I'm trying to find how long it takes the fuel to lose its heat and fall to 15 degC. I know this is a transient heat transfer analysis, but i need to know if to use Transient Thermal or Fluent for the analysis. So far i have been able to do the design in solidworks and import geometry to Ansys to mesh. Also, i intend using polyurethane for the insulation, but i didn't find this material in the engineering data library. How should i go ahead with specifying the insulation?

Thanks for your prompt responses.

there are different densities for PUR foam, so I guess you have to generate one yourself. I guess it will take a while for the tank to cooul down, can't you do it manually? Assign an R-value to the foam and go for it?

Thanks. I found its much easier doing the heat transfer analysis through fluent than transient thermal. In fluent just had to specify the thermal conductivity, density, and specific heat capacity. It saved me the stress of having to manually add material to the engineering data library.
