hi 2 all
I'm new user of ansys that want to use ansys cfx for a ducted propeller.
i can't mesh my model as good as that my solver give me best results.
how can i mesh my model with boundary layers that have fine meshes near propeller and duct and meshes grow slowly linearly with distance from the duct?
I work with ansys workbench and fluid flow(CFX).
thanks

Hi sohrabmajd,

You need to give Mesh>Edge sizing on the propeller.
Use "Bias Type" depending on where you want coarse mesh and fine mesh.
It will help the mesh to grow coarse as it moves away from duct.
Use the Bias factor depending on how drastic you want to change mesh size with distance.
I also suggest to use "Behavior" as "Hard", this will make sure you are getting what you are feeding.

Hope it helps

Cheers

Hi Kapi
nice to meet you

I did what you were told but it didn't do it
here is my model file and its pictures:

http://www.2shared.com/file/kygPxAmL/ducted_kaplan.html
I modeled a ducted prop. that had a rotating domain about propeller and a main domain as open water.
when i select rotating domain for geometry in method, it meshed fine and the domain coarse
but when i select main domain as geometry, both domain meshed fine that my laptop memory show error and in solver show not enough allocated memory.

if yo see my model, please help me to setting up ansys workbench for meshing it.
thanks so much because of your help.

i m also new to ansys my geometry is a complex one when i mesh it surface quality comes around 0.4 but while doing volume most of the elements r seen outside if u say i can show u the geometry and also the image after volume meshing
