Hi guys,
I have an STL file and I need to turn it into a hex mesh in ICEM. Is there a way to derive a CAD/workable part from an STL file that you can't get any measurements from? Im trying to create a hex mesh using blocking. Thanks |

The Hexa blocking tools work perfectly fine from faceted geometry (such as STL).
It does help to extract feature curves (Using build topology). I don't think there are any tutorials that cover this directly (STL -> Hexa), but if you try one of the STL to Tetra tutorials it will give you all the right prep information to get going with ICEM CFD Hexa. I didn't understand what you mean when you say you can't get measurements from your STL file... One extra feature... Once you have a Hexa blocking of an STL part, you can actually convert the surface of the blocking into nice bspline geometry (since it has well defined i-j space for each face) so you can export an IGES file. This is done under the edit menu.
