Hi,
I am creating a un structured mesh using ICEM CFD for a HVAC duct. I did the mesh check for single elements, multiple elements, duplicate elements, penetrating elements, non manifold vertices and unconnected vertices. I don't have any issues with these checks, but when I take the mesh to fluent I am getting a error message of "4 De generated elements found". Is there any check to identify the de generated elements to correct it? Many thanks, Mohan.G |

Why not go with the default list?
The default would include things like volume orientations and surface orientations which could catch some kinds of degernate elements. You could also check quality... Degenerate elements typically have negative quality and show up pretty clearly. You could then click on the columns in the histogram and right click to create a subset... I usually right click on the diagnostic subset and add a few layers to get a better idea of what is going on around those elements... If you have bad elements and can't just smooth them away, always check the geometry. Usually these elements are due to over-constraining geometry. Consider if the geometry constraints that are causing the problem are necessary... Often they are just points or curves that are not needed to capture any particular feature. You can simply delete (or filter with build topology) the curves and mesh again to get a much better result.
