Hi all,
I’ve loaded a CAD model (STEP file) in ICEM CFD: it is a complete impeller but I want to use only one channel, so I have deleted unnecessary stuff and I created a closed volume containing one blade delimited by surfaces each one obtained rotating the other. The problem is that when I set the rotational periodicity and I try to build a volume mesh something strange happens as you can see in the attached image. I was expecting the mesher just to fill the volume with tetras not to change the geometry Can someone help me? Thank you. |

It appears that they mesh is constrained by the angle of periodicity that you specified. The geometry is not.
For this sort of model, do you actually have a periodic left and right that need to be match or is this just one flow channel out of 12 that each stand alone? Are you certain that your requested periodicity matches the rotation that you used to close the periodic volume?

Thank you Simon, for your reply.
I think you will find clarifying the attached images, about both geometry and periodicity (red surfaces): yes, actually have a periodic left and right that need to be match. I have also attached an image showing what happens when I try to mesh the entire geometry. The impeller has 5 blades so the periodicity angle is 72 degrees. |

It should be able to do it... One more tricky thing. Where is your material point? I have found that for some strange reason it can really make a difference. Make sure it is in the volume and pretty much at the middle of its local periodicity.

In the third image of my last post where it is written "fromscreen".
