Dear All,

I tried to mesh my geometry with periodicity (through match control) in Ansys meshing. I always getting some topology error. Then I tried for very simple quarter part of cylinder. There also I got the same error.

But AM is meshing the same geometry without match control. Unfortunately, help also not explaining this in detail. There is any way to mesh the geometry with periodicity in AM?

Is it possible to do periodic meshing in Ansys meshing?

Any one give me some suggestions to do this?

Hi jsm,

I struggled with this as well (the transition from Gambit has not been an easy one...). The best method I found was to convert the faces to periodic boundaries within fluent itself using the command line.

Basically, I use the Named Selections in the mesher to name the two faces which will be periodic "periodic.1" and "periodic.2". Then, once the mesh is loaded in fluent, type mesh -> modify-zones -> make-periodic. "periodic.1" will be your periodic zone, and "periodic.2" will be your shadow zone.

I haven't played with the feature to enough to know if it has issues with the faces having different mesh topology, but I'm guessing you'll need to do something in the mesher similar to linking the meshes in gambit to ensure the faces/edges have identical meshes.

Thanks for the reply. Yes. I want the same kind of feature (linking the face meshes) available in gambit. I will try in AMP once again to find the way to do this.

Not sure if you've solved your problem yet, but you can do the equivalent of linking the face meshes in Gambit using the "match face meshing" control in the Ansys mesher.
