Good afternoon to everybody!
I am new to this community, and also to the CFD-software world, just to realize how different the theory from the actual practice is. I am using ICEM to grid a simple geometry, and simulate the couette flow. I drew a simple 3D rectangular and inserted it in ICEM. I blocked( the block was automatically assigned to the geometry, but I also did the auto-association step, just in case. And somewhere there, I just lose it. Don't know how to proceed and obtain the mesh. The next step would be Mesh--) part mesh setup? If yes, how do I configure the fields over there? the tutorials do not explain!! Thank you for your help!! |

The reason why I don't find the tutorials helpful, is because the only thing they do is tell you "what to do" without explaining the "how" and "why".. I mean that when the tutorials guide you, they just say press this, then open the other tab and do the following settings....
Anyway, bymyself, I have managed to conclude to some points, which would be the following: i) for output in CFX you can't work in 2D ii) First one should block iii)Associate points and curves iv)Mesh. If the geometry is quite simple, one should set the number of nodes on every surface. One question I have here is how do we implement the rest of settings in the tab of curve mesh parameters. As well as which is the difference between surface mesh and curve mesh. v) If the geometry is more complicated one should refine the mesh by inserting an O-grid, closing holes etc.... This is what I've found out so far... More notices are more than welcome!! |

The Hexa training is a whole day, during which we take lots of time to explain the how and why. There are also notes about the "why" in the help.
You may want to see some of the online tutorials on the customer portal. Or you could try the ones at www.ansys.com/demoroom (look under ICEM CFD and AI* Environment) There is also one simple 2D one on our youtube site, www.youtube.com/ansysinc/ For your case, if you block it in 2D for CFX, you can extrude the blocking or the mesh, it is up to you. Optionally, you could output it as a 2D mesh from ICEM CFD in Fluent *.msh format. When you read a 2D fluent mesh into CFX, it automatically extrudes it for you. |

hey even im trying to simulate the couette flow!! how did u simalte the moving condition in CFX pRE??

set the upper walll as a "wall" condition and give it a speed which is parallel to the flow direction.
