hi:
I put mesh (made by ANSYS)into GAMBIT , I find that the mesh of the model has only a group in GAMBIT. The model is made of several parts. because every part of model belong to different materials, and I must define that. How to make the group into several parts?

Used Named selections.

Select Faces or bodies, then right click on them and create a named selection. Type in the name (Fluid1, Inlet or whatever), then generate.

When you compute the mesh, it will be in the component of the named selection and you will be able to select it in the solver (or gambit).

Best regards.

thank you for your replay. Face could be typed, but the volume is grou p,it is not several volumes, I want to type the volumes which is the part of the group.I mesh the volumes in ANSYS,when I put the mesh into gambit, the volumes change to the group, and the group could not be divided into the volumes.Could you give me some advice?

You will need to go into DM and segment the volume into several bodies (there are many different tools to do this, you may need to use the freeze option. I am not familiar enough to tell you all the steps off the top of my head).

You would then hold down ctrl and select all the bodies (in the tree or on the screen) and then right click to add them to a multi-body part.

When you send this to ANSYS Meshing, it will mesh the Multi-Body part as one part with conformal mesh, but you will be able to add named selections separately to each body.

You can do the named selections in DM or AM.

hi:
I find that when the mesh from ANSYS to gambit, the part of mesh changed, two parts merge the whole, Why?

hi:
I am modeling heat of switch in working condition. I want to use FLUENT.But I find that the heat quantity of heat source has changing along with time. I do not know how to deal with this problem. Therefore, I calculate the the heat quantity of heat source along with time by ANSYS.
Now,I try to put the result of ANSYS into FLUENT,and model heat of switch in working condition(because FLUENT can simulate convection and radiation better). How to modeling heat by fluent and ansys?

best regards

Lets keep meshing questions here and send the solver questions to that section of CFD Online (Workbench can easily map the thermal results into the CFD solution).

As for meshing, "two parts merge the whole, why?"

I don't really know what you are talking about. please try again. Maybe with an image.

"two parts merge the whole"means the model is consist of several parts in ANSYS, but when the model is put into GAMBIT, that change into the one.
And I must divide the one into several parts because of the different parts have different materials.

right,

That is why I said you needed to right click on each body in ANSYS (before you compute the mesh) and put each in its own Named Selection. FOr instanced, one might be "Fluid" and another "PorousMedia". Then the mesh will each be in its own component and the output will remain separate.

You mean I need define different parts with different materials in order to remain the different parts from ANSYS to GAMBIT? But the different parts haved been defined with different materials in ANSYS(the parts are different solid materials)
best regards

When I have used multi-body parts and sent them to Fluent and needed separate volume regions, I know the Named Selection method has worked. Perhaps other methods would also work. If they are already separate parts, it should be easy to apply the named selections.

I will ask someone else about your method.
