Is it possible to blocking and mesh part of geometry?

Hello,
My question is in ICEM, for a complex geometry, is it possible to only blocking and mesh one part at a time? I want to check which block causes me mesh errors. It seems that even I disable parts in the display tree, but when I create block, it still as big as the whole geometry instead of the parts shown. also it seems it still mesh the whole geometry. This is really a very challenging software. Thanks. |

Hi, Zhao,
It is possible to do so. Toggle on/off on display tree just make it visible or not. If you want to block/mesh part of the geometry, only blocking the part that need to be meshed. Maybe some auxiliary geometry is needed, such as point, curve, surface. In addition, please pay attention to the projection. Wish it helpful. Good luck. |

If you have already blocked the model, you can just blank blocks or reduce the index control or even put sections of the model into a different material (such as FLUID2) and then turn it off.
The first two options, index control and blank blocks, can be access thru the model tree by right clicking on the blocking branch. Create a new part thru the parts branch, but don't forget to use the blocking material option in the create parts DEZ (3rd icon) or it will try to select geometry or mesh. But back to the root of your problem... If you are having errors with your mesh, you can check the premesh quality with the entire model (you don't even need to break it up). You should be able to diagnose and repair any quality problem most quickly while still in ICEM CFD blocking. You can use the check fix, the quality metrics (with a histogram to hilight and show the bad elements), or Scan planes (right click on premesh) or even cutplanes (also under premesh). ICEM CFD Hexa is a powerful tool with many options, and therefore a steep learning curve. Don't give up yet, once you get it, it is really very powerful and straight forward to use. I really believe their is no better tool for generating all hexa meshes on real geometry. Simon |
