Hi, I am still learning ANSYS Fluent and just finished an end-end fluent analysis for relatively complex aero surfaces.

One of the confusion is about the differences between enclosure (both in Spaceclaim and Design Modeler) and extruded body using the sketch.

It looks like Ansys will automatically subtract the selected bodies from the enclosure, but all the bodies are still there. When I move on to mesh (not deleting those solid bodies), all the bodies are considered contact regions. While if I use boolean function to subtract the solid bodies from a sketched "air enclosure", all the bodies are deleted from the structure trees. So should I delete all the bodies after the enclosure is created for the next step of meshing and fluent analysis?

Many thanks!

If you do not need the solid bodies for anything in the CFD then delete or suppress them in DesignModeler or SpaceClaim. There is no need to pass extra items to Fluent if it is not needed. Also you might want to put the faces in the fluid domain (which match the faces in the solid body) into Named Selections (in DM) or Groups (in SC) to make life easier in the mesh generation and CFD.

BTW, I would recommend using SC as your default ANSYS geometry preparation application instead of DM. DM is a legacy application and ANSYS now put their efforts into SC.

Thank you for the answer. I do feel SC is way easier than DM. I cannot think of any use of solid models other than the geometry that could be re-used for load analysis.

Many thanks!
