Hi there
I am on the lookout for a new mesher, as I am currently using the out-dated Gambit, which is giving me RAM problems sometimes. I would like to know, if anyone has information on the future of the Ansys meshers "ICEM CFD" and "Ansys Meshing". I am leaning towards ICEM CFD as I like the option of changing the geometry in the meshing software, however, I am concerned that the software will be unsupported in the future like Gambit. Does anyone have information of the future of ICEM CFD - is it more future-proof to learn Ansys Meshing? Thank you /Kasper |

Yes. Many OEM and Engineering service industries are using ICEM CFD to create good quality meshing.

Hi Kasper,
It does not hurt to be fluent in the various softwares used for meshing. I agree an update is in order; I personally use ICEM CFD in my research group. It can indeed produce good quality hexa or tetra/prism, structured/unstructured mesh. I believe it's also here to stay, but with technology advancing at the rate it is, the 'future-proof' question may be difficult to answer with absolute certainty. It may look daunting to learn a new meshing program, but once you do I'm sure you will ask why you didn't do it sooner. |
