I have a 3D model in Spaceclaim and want to just start with running a 2D model in Fluent or CFX. I just want to take the middle plane of the 3D model to mesh and run a fluid CFD model. Does anyone know how to do this. I could do it if I was wanting to run the full model but don't need to do that yet. I just want to evaluate the center plane for now. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

first you need to detach your central plane from the geometry,
you will get many surfaces, delete the others you don't need.
afterwards before meshing in Geometry setting switch to 2D in
Analysis Type.
Mesh your plane and have fun with the simulation.

FYI,
CFX can not do true 2D simulations. You must have a 3D geometry, even is it is a plane or wedge with symmetry conditions applied to the planar surfaces. CFX is only a 3D solver.
Fluent has a 2D solver though.
