Hi everyone,
I'm running a project whereby I have a rotating cone in a container full of a certain fluid. The rotation surface can be seen by the cavity in the cylinder. I have most of the details down but when I check the mesh quality, I get rather strange results. My mesh, for the most part on the outside is a structured mesh with consistent sizing, ranging from 0.5 - 0.6 skewness, and 0.3 - 0.5 orthogonal quality. I'm just not sure why my overall element quality is so low ? |

You are right, the cells dont look so bad. I cant tell for the middle range, though.
I remember a post from https://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/members/psymn.html on this forum where he desribed, that the prism layer "quality" is calculated by splitting the cells in tetrahedral elements and then calculating their quality, which results in very low values for this measure. This applied to ICEM, but seeing your result looks to me as if its the same in ANSYS Meshing. You will have to dig a bit to find that thread I guess but its there somewhere. You should check other values instead - skewness, orthogonality, ... |

Nevertheless, I am unsure of what to make of the aspect ratio? I know the value of 1 is best, but I can't seem to decrease the aspect ratio without quadratically increasing the number of elements. I couldn't manage to perform hex dominant meshing either when setting solver preference to FLUENT. The attached file are the compiled views of the mesh. Do let me know if you need a clearer view. |

Bump. Could somebody give me some feedback on my mesh? I'm rather new to CFD so I can't really tell how good my mesh is
