Hi all!
My case is as follows. I have a previously created 3D mesh of a wing-fuselage body with some sweet meshing strategies. For my part of the research, I only need a 2D mesh of a wing section with those strategies from the 3D mesh. Is there a possibility to do some kind of conversion or projection/slicing of a 3D mesh to a plane? I saw a somewhat similar topic opened but there were no answers given, hope I'll be luckier. Thanks in advance! |

Where do you need it for? Fluent or CFX? Or something else?

The 3D mesh is in ICEM, so I need it in ICEM and the to a Fluent solver.

If your wing intersects with a symmetry plane, then just visualise that plane and export this 2D mesh to fluent. Make sure that you tick the 2D icon upon export. (It might help to first save only the visible mesh to a separate project).
If the wing does not intersect with a symmetry plane, you have to create a new mesh. What you can do is to create a surface in your volume that intersects your wing. Then mesh this as an internal surface (see Part Mesh Setup). After meshing, only visualise this surface and export it in 2D to fluent. Make sure you don't put inflation (prisms) on this surface. Thanks for a reply!
I've tried what you said, but the surface I created doesn't seem to be meshed. Am I right, that the strategy you suggested doesn't work for "Pre-Mesh->Convert to Unstruct" method? For me, it seems that I should set all the parameters for the new surface in Part Setup menu because only then it meshes the new surface. Looks like I'm missing something or lack some skills. I'm looking forward for your help and thanks in advance! |

Aha. You are creating a hex-mesh. That make things different, and beyond my experience. But it is possible. That is for sure.
Maybe you could search the help for meshing 'thin surfaces" or 'internal surfaces" using blocking structure....... |
