Hi everyone,

I would like to create a hybrid mesh of a volute geometry, with the extended pipe fully structured and the spiral unstructured. Furthermore, I would like the regions to be conformal and with prism layer expansions from the surface mesh of both regions.

Using some past posts and tips( merge meshes between hexa and prism and https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByILTpTdfh_ednBqTXBQT3pQMjQ/view ), I have managed to get a conformal surface mesh and prism layer expansion.

The surface mesh looks like this:

I had to delete the interface between the two regions in order to get the prism layer to behave as I would expect. The prism layer expansion looks like this:

Both of the previous links state that I simply need to use Delauney to generate the rest of the volume mesh, however it does not work for me. Namely, the structured region is filled with tets:

I have also tried to merge the resulting mesh with the structured block from before, both before and after using Delauney to fill the rest of the volume, but neither have worked.

Does anyone have any tips or guidance as to how I can create this hybrid mesh with a conformal interface and prism boundary layers in both regions?

If you need the files to help, please just ask and I will happily message them to you.

Regards,
James

Hi James,

did you manage to solve this problem? I'm in a situation similar to yours.
