Hello,
I am trying to simulate a sign panel in a wind tunnel to find ways to reduce the wind load on the panel. My geometry includes a sign panel with holes in it. My problem is when I am in ICEM and I mesh, It meshes the entire signs and tries to eliminate the holes. My process is as follows: 1 - In auto-CAD I create the model with the enclosure and then subtract the sign panel from the enclosure so it is one model. 2 - I import into ICEM as a faceted STL > repair geometry > proceed to name the surfaces (inlet, outlet, walls, sign panel etc.) 3. - Generate body two point centroid (air click on sign and inlet) (sign click on two corners of the sign) 4 - When I go to mesh, it is a tetra mesh and everything looks good aside from the sign panel being completley meshed and not meshing around the holes. I have tried the ANSYS workbench through design modeler and the meshing within workbench but it does not yield accurate results. How can I mesh the sign to where it meshes around the holes in the sign. Or if there is a better way to mesh the entire system anything works as this is my first time using ICEM. I attached screen shots of what I have been getting Thank you. Last edited by tigerdroppings; June 21, 2018 at 18:53. |

Isn't that because the mesh size at the hole is greater than the hole diameter? So how do you expect the hole curvature to be captured? Use a smaller mesh sizing locally at the sign holes (e.g. a local edge sizing).

You can use the Mesh / Global Mesh Size / Curvature Based Refinement or you can assign a local mesh sizing using Mesh / Curve Mesh Setup. It is useful to put such features into a Part and give it a useful name.

Thanks for your help I was able to get it to work. Is there an easy way to a grid independence study for the mesh?

Assuming that you have a coarse mesh,
Change the global scale factor from 1 to .5 and so on, leave everything else the same |
