Hello everyone.

I'm here to ask a question i got when starting to perform a "Mesh independence study" and probably will have too at "time-step independence".

The deal is, i have read all treads here and a few links over internet about the mesh independence study, and i'm not really clear if the study has to be performed as the simulation where going to be performed or if i can make a simple simulation just to perform the study. My main simulation goes around 3-4 days in a 800,000 elements grid, so i would like to avoid this by doing a simple simulation on the study.

Thanks in advance for yout attention

hi
what kinds of simplification do you want to perform?
for example you can change it to a steady state problem for mesh study

Hi f.yn
Thats was one of the things that i thought or the other one is to avoid the non-newtonian models and run it as a newtonian.

Hi Carlos,

i suggest to not simplify your physics for mesh dependency study.

When you can't go finer with your mesh, then go the other way. Produce coarser meshes and test it against your finest mesh. This is not different than just going finer.

That way you still get an estimate of the mesh dependency of your solution.
