Hello everybody,
I have Ansys 18 and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS installed on my computer. I can start a ANSYS Fluent project in Workbench. I can draw a geometry with the ANSYS Design Modeler. I can create a good mesh with the ANSYS Meshing module for the first time it's launched. Whenever I exit ANSYS Meshing, I can't go back. I can not edit the mesh again because when I try to launch the ANSYS Meshing module for a second time the ANSYS Meshing window pops-up, shows the drawing and freezes. The workbench window task bar gives the message: Starting Meshing... I can keep on waiting but I won't have any error message that is why I do not know where to beginning for solving the problem. The detailed message that I get when do a right click on the Mesh and chose REfresh is below. Thank you in advance for you support. p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } Ansys.Core.Commands.ApplicationBusyException: UpdateGlobalPreferences at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.PrivateI nvoke (System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy rp, IMessage msg, System.Exception& exc, System.Object[]& out_args) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 --- Ansys.Core.Commands.ApplicationBusyException: Meshing is busy in UpdateGlobalPreferences at Ansys.Addins.Infrastructure.Remoting.RemotingApiHe lper.ThrowApplicationBusyException (System.String message, System.String currentMethod, System.Exception innerException) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Addins.Infrastructure.Remoting.RemotingApiHe lper.FatalApiMethodInvalidOperationException (System.String message, Ansys.Addins.Infrastructure.Remoting.RemotingApiMe thod callback) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Meshing.Core.ISimulationHelperWrapper.ThrowB usyExceptionIfMechanicalEditorBusy () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Meshing.Core.Addin.ThrowBusyExceptionIfMecha nicalEditorBusy (IProtectedContext context, Ansys.Meshing.Core.Commands.DataSourceHelper helper, Ansys.Core.DataModel.ProjectSystem.DataContainerRe ference curModelContainer) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Meshing.Core.Addin.ThrowBusyExceptionIfMecha nicalEditorBusy (IProtectedContext context, Ansys.Core.DataModel.ProjectSystem.DataContainerRe ference container) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Meshing.Core.Commands.RefreshModel.ExecuteCo mmand (IFullContext context) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Addins.Infrastructure.CommandUtilities.Comma ndHelper.Execute (IFullContext context) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Core.Commands.Concurrency.CommandWorkUnit.ex ecuteInContext (Ansys.Core.Commands.CommandContext subContext, IExecutionEngineCallback tracer) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 --- Ansys.Core.Commands.CommandFailedException: Meshing is busy in UpdateGlobalPreferences CommandName: Meshing.RefreshModel(Container="Mesh", RepositoryFilesToRefresh=[]) at Ansys.Core.Commands.CommandAsyncResult.RethrowFail ureException (System.Exception e) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Core.Commands.CommandAsyncResult.Wait (Int32 milliSecondsTimeout, Boolean exitContext) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Core.Commands.CommandAsyncResult.Wait () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.ProjectSchematic.Commands.RefreshCommand.Ref reshComponents (IFullContext context, IEnumerable`1 componentsToRefresh) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 --- Ansys.Core.Commands.CommandFailedException: Meshing is busy in UpdateGlobalPreferences CommandName: RefreshComponent(Component="/Schematic/Component:Mesh") at Ansys.Core.Commands.CommandAsyncResult.RethrowFail ureException (System.Exception e) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Core.Commands.CommandAsyncResult.Wait (Int32 milliSecondsTimeout, Boolean exitContext) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.Core.Commands.CommandAsyncResult.Wait () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.ProjectSchematic.Commands.RefreshComponentCo mmand.InvokeAndWait (IProtectedContext context, Ansys.Core.DataModel.DataReference Component) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.ProjectSchematic.GuiOperations.RefreshCompon ent.Invoke (Ansys.UI.GuiOperationContext context) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.UI.GuiOperationContext.Invoke (Ansys.UI.GuiOperationMetaData operationData) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.UI.UIManager+<InvokeOperation>c__AnonStorey0 .<>m__0 () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Ansys.UI.UIManager.InvokeOperationCore (System.String pseudoname, Ansys.UI.Views.OperationDelegate callback, Boolean allowOSMessages, Boolean coreTransaction) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 Last edited by Touré; June 25, 2017 at 04:32. |

This might be slightly silly thing to write but have you checked that the license is available? Is there any meshing processes running according to the process list? Does the DM file open properly?
I have a hunch that Ansys has been putting Windows on a pedestal at Linux's expense for quite some time now. The modern revisions of workbench and its programs might not be completely compatible with linux, which is a crying shame. I don't use DM or Meshing in a linux OS but I have noticed that the linux Fluent does have some embarassing bugs that are missing from the win version of the program. |
