Hi everyone,

I have been using ICEM for several years now, which also means that I have been using different versions (12, 15, 16.2) and I am currently having a problem with a very simple case on v17.1 (case that used to work fine with previous versions...).

The case is a 2D airfoil (NACA0012) hexa mesh (blocking). Geometry and blocking are created fine, but when I generate the premesh, the boundary layer at the leading edge does not show as expected (see picture Leading_Edge_v17-1). The point is that for some reason (my question), the nodes distribution specified on the edges is not used by ICEM close to the airfoil surface (see picture Leading_Edge_v17-1_close_view_1stCell). Instead, ICEM generates a layer of constant cells height and jumps back to the edge nodes distribution outside of this layer. It is impossible to control the y+ this way which is really annoying...

The same procedure (this is a tutorial) used to work fine with the previous versions (see picture Leading_Edge_v16-2; the picture shows ANSYS 17.1 only because the .uns mesh file, created with v16.2, was read in the current version I have).

The mesh is as expected at the trailing edge (see picture Trailing_Edge_v17-1) although this is not always the case according to the different tests I have carried out on other simple 2D airfoil meshes. Surprisingly, this problem does not happen when I meshed a 2D VAWT which uses a similar blocking.

I am a bit lost with this issue and do not know if this may be a bug of this version or if I did something wrong (although I have checked several times the different options/settings).

So would any of you have experienced the same problem or have an idea on how to fix it?

Many thanks for considering my message!

Actually we just need to modify the Triangulation Tolerance (Settings > Model/Units). Set it to 1e-7 and everything should be fine.
