Hi,

I'm new to this forum but the past few weeks I've experienced some problems with pre inflation prism meshing of a racing car using ICEM. So far I managed to successfully generate meshes using post inflation prism meshing, but up to now the solver (CFX) produced errors regarding negative volume elements when providing the mesh generated by pre inflation functionality in ANSYS 17.2 . The reason I tried to get the pre inflation working is that I expect it to be much faster at generating the meshes.

So my questions are as follows:
1. What is normally the cause of negative volume elements using a pre inflation layer (I don't think that the surface mesh is the problem as using the same surface mesh for a post inflation layer worked without any problems)
2. Is it possible to use the pre inflation layer while using CFX as a solver? if I'm not mistaken the pre inflation is mostly used together with Fluent.
3. If the answer on question 2 is yes, any useful suggestions regarding the prism meshing settings? Of course I read the built in ANSYS help functionality regarding this problem, but I'm not sure which settings I should change in the case of pre inflation layer meshing compared to post inflation meshing. With post inflation meshing I used 35 layers growing wb-exponentially.

Thanks in advance!
