Circular Tangential Inlet Mesh Distorted

Hi
I am having trouble making a decent HEX mesh for the tangential inlet geometry I have. I have been trying to follow the similar steps shown in this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dalhTs4-0-c although the difference is that the tutorial has a square inlet while my geometry is circular inlet. I added an O-grid to the circular inlet and blocks looks decent, see the attached images, however when meshing, it seems the projection from the circular face at the begining of the inlet toward the interface to the main body take a twist which results to an awful distortion in mesh. One can follow the line along the length of the inlet and see how it is twisted. My question is, even though the blocks looks decent and straight, why mesh projections take a twist and how to fix it. Thanks |

Hi Amir,
i firstly suggest you to check your associations the flange and nearby curves. Also move the vertices to their approximate location in the final mesh. Use "Scan planes", "Show Association", and Mesh Quality to understand the flaws. Though i have some doubts, that a good quality mesh blocking will be as simple as it is in your case. Thanks Sebastian,
You were right, I had issue with my associations, I have made some changes and it has improved my mesh. As you said I still have some small problem at the tangential inlet which seems to be the case for these kind of geometries. Thanks for taking the time and writing a post here Cheers Amir |

Hi Amir,
you may have a look at page 95 of this guide: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByIL...BQT3pQMjQ/edit There is explained how to do a volute's blocking. This seems like a very similar case to the cyclon's attached pipe. I know this will be tricky to do. Unfortunately, this is all i can help right now. With regards, Sebastian |

Thanks Sebastian,
Yes, following the YouTube tutorial, I think I did those steps recommend in the the slide. The problem is my geometry is 3D with a circular pipe coming to the main tank so the interface becomes an egg shape edge with sharp edge that is the most distorted meshes right now (although much improved since yesterday) I think I will give it a try and run it and see how it goes. Danke Cheers Amir |
