Hello everybody,
I´m currently meshing an annular gap as shown in the picture. At every wall I need a spacing of about 2e-6 in order to get y-plus values around 1. But when I use a spacing below 5e-6, the 3x3x3 Determinant drops. In the picture are shown all the elements with a determinant under 0.05. All of them are located at the outter wall

Does anybody know why this is happening?

Hi Niklas,

i guess, that you need to increase the geometry tolerance to a finer level. The arc might not be finely resolved enough for your small elements.
Have a look into the icem settings. Under model/units is a field for triangulation tolerance. Increase this value below your smallest mesh length, e.g. 1e-7. Then recalculate your premesh.

With regards,
Sebastian

Hey Sebastian,

thanks for your answer! So I tried to change the tolerances before I posted my question. When I did that, the position of the bad elements changed from the inner wall to the outer wall. I tried to mesh the geometry again. I noticed, when I created the 2D blocking, everything was just fine, but when I translated it to 3D, the Determinants dropped.

Hi Niklas,

have a look at this thread:
http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...y-small-y.html

Here it's suggested to activate project to bspline in the hexa mesh settings. This might solve your problem.
I also suggest to reload your project when you have changed the settings.

With regards,
Sebastian
