Hey,

I'm new to ICEM and try to build a 3d mesh of a fluid with a round plate with an angle of 20° and a horizontal pipe in it. The pipe is in short distance of the plate. My problem is, that I always get bad element quality because of the angles I have in my model. Can you please give me a hint how to build up/ optimize the mesh? Or is my whole structure not good and should be changed (e.g. wrong slices)?

In the following simulation I want to check the flow around the pipe when wind is coming from the wall and the plate.

The model is in the zip-file.

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you try unstructured ?

I need the simulation for my bachelor-thesis and my supervisor told me to build a good structured mesh. But I think if I can show him, that the unstructured mesh has better quality than the structured I can convince him.

Do you see any possibility to make a good structured mesh for my problem?

And if not, is it better to make the whole mesh unstructured?
I thought about building an unstructured block of mesh around the plate and the pipe and the rest of the fluid as structured mesh.

Additional Question: I have to do the mesh multiple times with variations of different parameters (for example the angle of the plate or the distance between the plate and the cylinder). I saw in an old thread (http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...ock-merge.html), that you recommended someone to do two meshes and load both of them in fluent. I will use CFX for the simulation but there is also an option to import multiple meshes. And would that allow me to do one mesh with the plate and one with the cylinder and just put both of them in CFX? Or would that cause bad results? I couldn't find more information about importing two meshes in one simulation and how the programm solves this.
