Kloz is on a distinguished road
Hello,

I’m trying to mesh the 2D profile of an aircraft along with its belly duct but ran into an error while reading it into Fluent. Meshing’s done on ICEM and I’m running Ansys 15.0. Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

It’s a hybrid 2D mesh with a hexa mesh around the aircraft and a tetra mesh for the rest of the domain. I’m the getting the following when I try to read it into Fluent:

150983 nodes.
169621 mixed cells, zone 13.
317510 2D interior faces, zone 14.
212 2D velocity-inlet faces, zone 15.
29 2D pressure-outlet faces, zone 16.
1096 2D wall faces, zone 17.
256 2D wall faces, zone 18.
1502 2D interior faces, zone 19.

First thing to note is that it mentions XY coordinates whereas I have a XZ mesh. A couple of posts I came across mention that 2D Fluent can’t handle anything that isn’t XY, is that really the case? If that’s where the problem is, am I going to have to redo the whole thing or is there a way to just rotate everything to get it on the right plane?

I’ve run the check mesh option with the default settings (as shown in the attached screen shot). The only issue that was reported were single-edge elements along the external mesh boundary and along the fuselage and belly walls. I assumed that to be normal for a 2D planar mesh and just ignored.
Are there any other checks one should generally be running before exporting the mesh?

Thanks in advance.

I guess the only error you is the placement of mesh in XZ plane. Just rotate and translate your mesh to get it in XY plane
