Hi,

I have a question about periodicities with ANSYS meshing R15.0.
I would like to performed two symmetric boundaries conditions but I have a problem ... For example, if the mesh contains two periodic boundaries with a common edge (that differ in translation direction), I have a problem with the mesh generation.

Does anyone know if it's possible to realize a mesh with two periodic boundaries with a common edge with ANYS meshing ?

Thanks !!

Can you post a picture of your geometry?

Here a simple example !
I would like periodicity with blue faces together, and periodicity with green faces together.

I can realize mesh with blue periodicity or green periodicity separately, but have two periodicities blue and green together on the same mesh it's impossible ...

No, to use periodicity with my solver, I need a mesh with identical mesh on the sides where I want a periodicity.

Hence my question whether it's possible to realize a mesh with two periodic boundaries with a common edge with ANYS meshing ?

You can use 'matching' to force matching meshes for/on any number of pairs of surfaces in Ansys meshing irrespective of they share edges or not. I recommend that you use edge sizing on the shared edge, this will help resolve sizing conflicts on neighboring walls.

Also in fluent you can have as many periodic surfaces as you want irrespective of they share an edge or not.

Sorry but "Matching" didn't work too in this case ... Exactly the same problem can't use "Matching" with a common edge ...

I use ANSYS Meshing R15.0 maybe this problem is solved in a new version?

Try this:
  1. Select all the faces (I mean all the pairs not just two faces) which you want to make periodic and create coordinate system for them (name it e.g PeriodCenter).
  2. Create first matching by using cyclic option and select PeriodCenter as coordinate system. Create mesh just to make sure if everything is ok.
  3. Make a copy of the first 'matching' and edit it for the second matching and so on. On every step create mesh just to make sure everything is ok.

If you have a pair of mis-matching faces then this may not work for you.

Also as I recommended earlier, you can use edge sizing to avoid sizing conflict on different pairs of matching.
