Hello everyone,
I am sorry for asking such a simple question. I've recently downloaded ANSYS 16.2 Student as I am taking classes on CFD. For starters we were asked to follow the following tutorial: http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~engsjo/...duct-v1p01.pdf My problem is that i cannot find a way to start ICEM CFD in order to create the geometry and the mesh. By searching the instalation folders I've been able to find some files related to ICEM, but no executable, and i can't find the option to open ICEM through the Ansys Workbench. Here is a screenshot my options at the workbench: http://i.imgur.com/yuGo6ED.png My machine is currently running Windows 10. |

having the same trouble! I have no idea where it is or how to open it. I'm honestly not even sure if it is included in the student version or if it's only for the full version?

Hi Yoshi,
i don't know whether it is included in the Student version. Check the installtion directory for icem to be sure. for windows: InstallDir\v160\icemcfd\win64_amd\bin\icemcfd.bat for linux: InstallDir/v160/icemcfd/linux64_amd/bin/icemcfd (replace InstallDir, of course) |

Nope I can't find it anywhere on my computer! I'm currently using version 16.2 so maybe they removed it for this version or integrated it somewhere in workbench itself?
I've tried finding it but the only trace I can find is when you insert a METHOD on the mesh when meshing, there is an option to create ICEM files (if you change method from automatic). But even though it creates those files, I don't get how to open them in ICEM! haha, it's very frustrating https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS5SFmHIYCY The video above shows ICEM CFD on the side plane of the workbench but mine doesn't have that! Capture.jpg PS. Going to uninstall 16.2 and try and see if there are any changes in 17.0! |

There isn't an option for it unfortunately!
Capture.JPG Though I did manage to find the ICEM CFD file in the addins, just not sure what to do with it Capture2.JPG UPDATE: Version 17.0 has the same sidebar so still no way of finding/opening ICEM CFD! Last edited by wiggles8x0; July 7, 2016 at 12:28. |

What academic license do you have, my guess is http://www.ansys.com/en-GB/Products/.../ANSYS-Student, which does not mention ICEM? See the ANSYS Installation and Licensing Guide (help/ai_instl/alicprodtabtlm72600.html) for a list of all the exact licence names. It could be that you do not get ICEM with that particular academic license.

I guess they are talking about student version which is free, but limited in problem size. So I assume it should provide all features...
Or may be they just want student to practice the fluent/cfx/fea tutorials and once they are good in bascis they should buy it |

haha shucks, guess I'll have to kiss my social life goodbye and learn GridPro . I needed Plot3D format for meshing is why I was interested in ICEM!
