Question about aspect ratio importance

Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the ICEM world so please bear with me. I've lived in a world of automatic unstructured meshers, but lately I've wanted to pick up ICEM for use with OpenFOAM. My question is about resolving boundary layers in a structured grid. In the past with ICEM, I've always manually selected edges and sized accordingly, with no growth ratios or anything. Now I want to build a better mesh with tighter spacing near the walls, etc., but I'm running into aspect ratio problems as shown in the attached picture. My tight spacings run out into the flow domain and I'm worried that this is going to give me some artifacts in my solution. I can't show much more of the picture, but hopefully you get the idea. I'm just wondering if this is something I can address, or if this is just the nature of a structured grid. This is probably a pretty silly question, but maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks very much! Alex |
