Hello all,

I have a 3d cylinder geometry, with the top as inlet, base as wall and sides as pressure outlet boundary conditions. I used a o-grid type of meshing using ICEMCFD. For the sake of boundary layer, the mesh is gradually increased from the wall (using geometric1 option in ICEMCFD). But the problem is the length of a cell immediately next to the wall (base of the cyl) is about 50 times its height. i.e., the aspect ratio is too high. I cannot further decrease the cell length as the total number of cells is very high. I also cannot increase the height of the first cell as that height is required to maintain y+ value < 1. So how can I rectify this problem??

Hi Vishnu,

if the flow is parallel to the longest side of an element the high aspect ratio might not be a problem.
You are trying to simulate a flow with a stagnation point? Well... how about squeezing elements to the center, where you need low aspect ratio. Closer to the boundaries the flow should align parallel to your base plate. In this region high aspect ratio elements should have a lower impact on the simulation.

with regards,
Sebastian

Hai Sebastian,

There is no stagnation of fluid and the flow is indeed parallel to the base plate. So there shouldnt be a problem as you said.

Thank you.

Try wall function since you have so much limitations. I believe they should produce equally sufficient results
