Hi guys,

first of all, i am absolutly new to this forum and also to CFD simulation.

Actually i'm trying to create an unstructured 2D mesh around a profile with ICEM CFD.
The elements at the boundary of the domain should be triangles, and around the profile i want to create a quad layer with a growing ratio of 1.2.

My problem is, that i absolutly FAIL in creating the mesh as i described.

A few weeks ago, i generated a quasi 2D mesh - a 3d mesh with just a small component in third dimension. I will upload a picture, so you can see what i mean. I will just change the view of the quasi 2D mesh, so you will understand what kind of 2D mesh i try to generate. Furthermore, i want to generate a density layer around the profile. Do you know, if its possible in ICEM CFD unstructured 2D meshing?

Actually i'm not quite sure, if it is possible to create the unstructured 2D mesh with ICEM CFD in this way.

I really hope anybody can help me.

Thanks and best regards, Hendrik

So you are interested in a hybrid mesh?

With tri elements in the boundary layer and quads around the boundary layer until the far field or outer curves?

If so yes, it is possible. Many discussions have gone on about this topic. Search the forum using google search as below :

Hybrid meshing of airfoil ICEM site: www.cfdonline.com

Put some efforts in, post your results with some pictures of your mesh and outcomes and people will try help you where it went wrong.
