Hi,Im still new and beginner in mesh generation. I want to ask what is the best method and step to mesh this type of geometry(Single tube and fins of car radiator). I've tried many method refer to the tutorial and so far still not success.
I'm preparing this for fluent (k-espilon model ) analysis Height = 680mm no of fins = 98 |

it seems sweep could help you,
anyway, you have a thin part in long length so meshing this part need many elements in length, you should do some simplifications, otherwise you'll have a lot of tet elements! |

Hi Muhey,
As Amin explained, Slice your model and use only a small portion(few fins) to model top reduce number of Elements. Use Sweep Method and Sizing function to get a good quality mesh. Cheers KAPI |

I'm still having trouble in getting good mesh..here i upload my geometry file in .igs format..I tried doing what you all suggest but still not success. However,I'm still new and beginner in this maybe the mistake is from my part.

Hi Muhey,
First Slice your geometry in a way that you have only three loops of fins. Suppress the other parts Give sweep Method to inner body Give Automatic method to other body Give edge sizing on the Fin body(Select all edges) with Element Size = 0.1 mm Behavior = Hard Bias = No This mesh should give you Orthogonal Quality of Max = 1 Average = 0.71 Let me know if thats what you are after! Cheers KAPI |

Thanks kapi..i've done like u said and get the nice mesh..But when i apply for the whole geometry without slicing method,it took few hours to generate and get a few error. |

Hi Muhey,
Why do you want to mesh the whole geometry if you are able to see the cooling effect, flow pattern in the sliced part of whole geometry. whatever you get from the slice will be same for whole geometry. If you want to mesh the whole geometry anyways make sure you have selected all the edges because even if you miss one it can cause errors and bigger elements. Check your edge sizing and I am sure you will find and get rid of error! Cheers KAPI Last edited by Kapi; May 26, 2015 at 23:58. |

I want the whole geometry because im investigating the temperature change with respect to the length of the tube..Anyway,i'll try to check again but just doing for the slice part is still good idea to proceed..Thank you very much for your help..
