Hi,

I need to model the intersection of a slot and a tube whose diameter is larger than the thickness of the slot. The intersection surface is an inlet while the rest of the slot face is a wall. So, I created a plane on the slot face, sketched the intersection profile and created a surface from the sketch. To separate the intersection surface from the slot face, I used Boolean subtract and subtracted the intersection surface from the slot body. The Boolean operation is successful. It retained the target body and created a new surface body. But, when I try to select the slot face, it still shows the entire face as one part. Ideally, it should have been divided into two regions-top and bottom separated by the intersection surface. Can you please explain what went wrong? Or is it just a problem with the display? Please see the following figures for reference.

I can't understand how you did Boolean of a surface on a solid. That wouldn't normally work. So mistake would be there.

The thing you are actually doing here is splitting a face which can be done by using Tools--> Facesplit option. First create the sketch (only lines) of the required shape on the face you want and select Facesplit. Here select target face and the end points of the sketch you created. That's it your face will be split as you want.

Hey, thank you. I used Facesplit option and it worked fine. But I don't know what's wrong with subtracting a surface from a solid. Ansys allowed it and the operation showed no error while generating the feature
