I hope you are all doing well!
I am working on my senior project and I am required to do analysis on a 3D model of our plane, everything was going fine until i reached the meshing part it was a mess.. I tried the usual way of making an enclosure then subtracting the model then when I go to the meshing part I get errors all over.. Shall I post the error page here? or shall I stop using the ANSYS mesher and start using ICEM? Thanks! |

Actually, it depends on the type of mesh you want to achieve and the type of errors you get so it wouldn't be the worst idea to let us know!

Well my aim from this simulation is to find the Lift and drag for the model at different pitch angles. Drag coefficient (CD), induced drag, Re#, magnitude of the velocity in the symmetry plane, Recirculation zones, finding the Boundary layers,, etc..
The only time I touched meshing was on a 2D airfoil and it was auto generated ,, today I did a tutorial on ICEM 14.0 CFD (this one http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~engsjo/...duct-v1p01.pdf) so yeah,, now I know basics of ICEM, what's the next step.. So basically what I want to say is that I am still a noob and I don't know which mesh type/ error I should use,, |

So here are my files.. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7vaws411jkwf7xv/Last_CFD.zip
I don't want someone to do it for me I want to learn! Thanks! |

So basically after 7 hours of watching tutorials and trying to mesh this, I reached nowhere! (just created four blocks around my model).
The thing is most tutorials don't tell you why this step is there, or why we do this and that.. Also, when there is a slight difference between the tutorial and my model I fail to improvise.. Far could you help me and take a look at my files? Thanks! |

First start off with a good CAD model. Your models has problems in the region of the trailing edge. The lower wing surface wraps around the trailing edge. Further the trailing edge curve is missing and the geometry is not captured very well in this region in general (see att4). This might be caused by wrong model/triangulation tolerances in ICEM or CAD programm. Correcting this will make blocking much easier.

Thanks kad!
I had to change my airfoils to non reflex airfoils, the mesh was fine, generated using ansys, here are my results https://www.dropbox.com/s/fah02t03jw...20Results.docx (I followed the Ahmad's car tutorial) I will go back to reflex airfoils and fix the trailing edge and if I need any help I let you guys know .. Thanks! |
